Letterjuice

A full color website

Letterjuice is the digital foundry of Pilar Cano and Ferrán Milán. Pilar and Ferrán are very special people and so is their work. Their typefaces are not only technically extraordinary, they also have an overwhelming personality; when you are in front of a Letterjuice typeface you know it.

When they asked us to redesign their type foundry, we thought it was a wonderful challenge. Not only on a technical level but also in terms of communication: we knew from the beginning that the Letterjuice typeface had to be different. To convey that idea we decided to use color, mixing bright tones with gradients. Each typeface uses a different palette, although we were careful to maintain a compact and coherent aesthetic.

The result is obvious from the first screen. When you enter Letterjuice, you realize that you are in a very special place.

multi-script

A global manager

The design of the Letterjuice type foundry’s website was a major technical challenge. Many of their typefaces are multiscript: they include several writing systems to work in coordination with Latin. This meant adjusting different alignments and line heights from the platform to ensure that the result was homogeneous across all pages. In this way, the foundry is fully independent in the management of its typefaces.

Almost all foundries in the world use two or three colors at most. For Letterjuice we did something different. Each typeface uses its own color palette, but we were careful to maintain a compact and coherent aesthetic. The result is obvious from the first screen. When you enter Letterjuice, you realize that you are in a very special place.

No small microinteraction

In the user experience of any website, the feedback the user receives when interacting with the elements is fundamental. In the case of Letterjuice we wanted to simulate a touch of manual drawing, animating SVG images with user interaction.
